Overview[ | ]

The HBK-4J is one of two Hunchbacks which feature missile hardpoints, the other being the -4SP. It also has the greatest number of energy hardpoints on a Hunchback after the HBK-4P. Like most Hunchbacks, the -4J concentrates most of its firepower in the right torso.

Stock Loadout[ | ]

This model stands apart from the usual Hunchback in that it is capable of long range support. That is thanks to the two LRM 10s installed in the right torso. At close range however, the -4J is still more than capable of defending itself with an array of five Medium Lasers backed up by a single Small Laser. Though heat can be an issue.

Strengths[ | ]

A wide torso twist angle allows the HBK-4P to keep its torso mounted weapons on target at close range. Six energy hardpoints allow it to carry a large number of small and medium lasers. Unlike the -4SP, the -4J has 20 missile tubes, which allow it to launch up to 20 missiles in a single wave.

Weaknesses[ | ]

The HBK-4J is often compared unfavorably to the Hunchback HBK-4SP. Both share the same speed and maneuverability and a similar number of energy and missile hardpoints. However, the -4SP spreads it hardoints out even among both arms and torsos. A loss of the right torso, which essentially disarms the -4J, would only remove half the firepower on the -4SP. Additionally, having most of the energy hardpoints mounted in the torso of the -4J means it is more difficult to track fast targets unlike the -4SP which houses almost all of its energy hardpoints in its arms.
