Heat Scaling[edit | edit source]
The heat scaling system (also known as ghost heat) was put in place to reduce the prevalence of alpha strike builds (maximizing damage per volley) and high DPS builds (maximizing damage over time) in Mechwarrior Online. As a result firing a weapons group with more than two PPCs, ERPPCs, Large Lasers and ER Large Lasers, one AC 20, any three SRMs, six Medium Lasers as well as other combinations leads to an increased heat for the weapons covered by this system. Each additional weapon fired will contribute to the heat output more significantly than the last.
